Post Marathon Celebration, good luck to those running tomorrow!

Hello Everyone,

Good luck to everyone running tomorrow, whether it's Montreal or Ottawa.  However, if you are in Montreal and crave a real beer (the Michelob Ultra at the end of the race will not count at all), we will be celebrating properly @ 3 Brasseurs on St. Denis starting around 12pm.  For more info and a list of who else might be showing up, check out the meetup page, http://www.meetup.com/Montreal-Beer-Runners/events/141478782/

Don't let the sun and temperature fool you, it's still beer running season

Hey everyone, sorry it's been a little while but we've just been having too much fun with the weather.  Yes, it's cooling off and the sun is starting to come down a bit earlier, but we still have ideal conditions for our beer runs, even if the terraces are starting to close up.  We still have some of the best bars in the city to hit before the weather takes its true turn, so c'mon out to Hurley's Wednesday and join in on the fun.

Only day without rain in forecast, come take advantage

So as we wrap up an odd July here, we seem to continue to be spared on Wednesday nights for the inclement weather (minus last week a bit, but we had a great plan B).  If you're starting to get in gear for the upcoming Montreal Marathon or Half in September, this is the way to deliver a solid run every week.  We keep growing by leaps and bounds, but always have room for more.

Yes it's warm, no we won't run + Race Info

Ice is never your friend people.  #1 it keeps your beer too cold, #2 it'll try to kill you while running (yes, the order is important).  So don't get too excited with the brief warm spot as the melting snow is just exposing the worst of the ice.

In other news though, as our thoughts turn to warmer weather, there are several great races this year that should be on your radar.  Info on the Spartan Race, Tough Mudder, and Marathon are below:

Spartan Race:

May 25 & 26
Until March 1st: $80 individual, $75 group of 4+, $72.50 group of 10+

Tough Mudder:

Happy 2013, Resolve to Run!

Welcome back everyone, and Happy New Year to all.  This should be a very exciting year for the MBR, we will continue to semi-hibernate through what is sure to be a continuing tough winter, but when this all clears up we will be back on the streets with a vengeance.  Looking forward there are things like the Spartan Race at Tremblant in May and the Tough Mudder in July that will be challenges that many of our members will face, as well as convincing more than a few people to join in for at least the half-marathon in September.

In the meantime, we will still be enjoying each others' company throughout January with a few great destinations, including a nice trip to the old Port and along St. Laurent.  Check out the bars, and we'll still be meeting 9PM every Wednesday.

Don't Be Afraid of A Little Rain

It's alright, in fact it's the best weather to run in, though at this point the forecasts seem to think that if the rain comes it will be clearing out by 7 anyways.  So if you're done with dragon boats or your marathon (congrats to all that finished this past weekend), now's a great time to enjoy the lighter side with a beer run.

If for some reason the weather does not cooperate, we can easily change the destination bar to something closer and more manageable, but what would be the fun in that?

Beer Running- The Scientific Side

So as word of the running club has been infiltrating conversation around Montreal, many people have speculated and questioned the validity of drinking beer after a run.  Some turn up their nose at the idea of being at a bar post-exercise and sweaty, some think that you are doing more harm than good for yourself.

Well, since there is no run update to give this week I instead offer a science update.  Below are two articles pertaining to the science of beer running, the first being an example directly from Dr. Manuel J Castillo-Garzon, MD, whose research inspired the original Fishtown Beer Runners club in Philadelphia.  The second is another research study summary written about from the New York Times Health & Science section.  While its science appears solid, I cannot help but question the amount of fun non-alcoholic beer offers compared to the real thing.
