Welcome Back to Running for 2016!

Hello to all Beer Runners and Future Beer Runners,

Welcome back for 2016!  We have finished our winter of drinking practice and are ready to begin running again! It is time to work off those extra beers from the winter season and enjoy the beautiful Montreal weather while it lasts. So, without further ado, we are back to 7PM and we are back to running!

I do hope to encourage more new runners to join us this year, we have a fantastic core of anywhere from 12-25 every week, and love getting to see new faces.  So please, head to Tam Tams on Wednesdays, find the group full of Red & Gold Beer Runner T-Shirts ($20, limited stock still available), and come see why we keep doing this crazy thing and love it after many, many years.

Cheers!

Welcome back to running for 2015!

Hello to all Beer Runners and Future Beer Runners,

Welcome back for 2015!  We have had a great winter keeping it alive, albeit without the running, but now that things seems to finally be thawing enough and the sun likes us more and more, it's time to change that.

Cheers!

Hello Everyone,

While it may not quite feel like it, spring should be on the way, but for now due to weather we are still targeting April 1st as the start of running season.  Not to worry, we still have been meeting weekly and enjoying our beers every Wednesday, so for those of you that may still doubt that we are doing anything, while it may not be exercise, it's the best way to beat cabin fever.

End of 2014- A Most Excellent Year

Hello again everyone,

It is getting cold and snowy, but for those of you that are unsure this does not mean we stop and crawl into our igloos for the winter waiting for it to thaw.  We keep on going, even if that means we don't require the running portion.  This is a strange month where we will be cutting a few weeks out due to major holidays, though anyone that is in town is encouraged to arrange something less official rather than idly sitting and doing nothing.

We realize that for many this is a very busy month, so the bars are going to be a bit smaller and more intimate.  That being said, anyone that enjoys that sort of ambiance may find this to be a great time to get introduced to everything, so take your pick.  If you cannot join now, make it your new year's resolution to joining our merry band of runners.

T-shirts still available as well, $20 gets you (for the most part) your pick of size and red or gold color.

Winter Season is Here!

Hello All,

Sorry it has been a while since we have posted on here; most of our action now takes place on Meetup or Facebook.  So, if you want to check us out on either of those, here are the links:

http://www.meetup.com/Montreal-Beer-Runners/
https://www.facebook.com/groups/392120524189223/

Anyways, we've had another great running season, but just because the weather is no longer our friend or you can't see a thing at night after 5 doesn't mean we can't still have fun.  Everything has officially shifted to now being 8:30 meeting times, DIRECTLY AT THE END DESTINATION.  Doesn't mean you can't run there if you want, in fact we'll give you mad props for doing so, but I cannot in good consciousness ask any of you to do so when I will not do it myself.

We still have shirts and a great group, so don't be afraid to come join or ask to see what we have left for shirts, still $20 with most sizes still available!

T-Shirts, Photos, and other General Annoucements

Hello Everyone,

We've been having another stellar summer, and no doubt our new T-Shirts are helping to turn heads each and every run.  There are plenty of shirts left for sale, and only $20 each.  If you want one shoot me a message @ greg.illson@gmail.com or by leaving a comment here or on our facebook page.  I will bring limited numbers of shirts to each run, so to be sure I have the right colour and size for you tell me in advance.

I am also noticing that we are a group that still can do more to raise our profile.  I am putting a new challenge out to all members and friends to come take more and better pictures of us.  We're such a beautiful group but no one will ever know it without pictures!

Otherwise if you are someone who has simply stumbled onto this page and have no clue what is going on, I encourage you to take the leap and come meet us at Tam Tams any Wednesday at 7pm to find out.  If you're a fan of beer at all this is the club for you.

Photo Op Tonight for MTL Blog

Hey Everyone,

Sorry not to be so active here, we do much more on Meetup.com and facebook nowadays, but for those of you that still follow us here, we have a lot going on now.  Mostly, the shirts are doing their job and gathering attention for us.  So much so that now MTL Blog wants to do a little piece on us.  As a result, I quickly realized that we are significantly lacking in group and action shots of us.  So, let's fix that tonight.

I will bring a fair amount of shirts to Tam Tams with me.  Some of you I still owe a shirt to, some may want them for the photos.  Either way, we'll try to get some shots of us at the beginning, maybe some action shots, and of course the end at St. Amboise.  So bring your smiles, drink your beer, and come have some fun tonight.

T-Shirts, Barefoot Running Clinic & Habs Game

Hello Everyone,

Such an exciting time in Montreal right now.  Warm weather, opening of the terraces, being the only Canadian city with any kind of bragging rights about hockey, it's a good life right now.  For some of you it can be even better when you join us to get your Montreal Beer Runner T-Shirts and try something new with our barefoot running clinic.

It will be more of a light training session designed to try out the nuances of barefoot running.  Distance has been shortened because frankly your calves will thank you the next day, but all are welcome to strap their shoes back on after the clinic to finish off the 5km or whatever distance you want to justify your beers.  Don't forget the Habs will be on and the game will have just started on the 10+ TVs at Frappe, so expect lots of pitchers and yelling as they try to finish off Boston for good.

Last call for shirt pre-orders

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to give fair notice here that I will order the T-shirts as of Monday, so if you do not even fill out the google form (I will attach the link one more time below), I will not guarantee that I will have a shirt for you in your size or preferred color. This way we should have the shirts (I hope) for the April 23rd run to Brasserie Cherrier, one of our favorite destinations.

Don't let the sun and temperature fool you, it's still beer running season

Hey everyone, sorry it's been a little while but we've just been having too much fun with the weather.  Yes, it's cooling off and the sun is starting to come down a bit earlier, but we still have ideal conditions for our beer runs, even if the terraces are starting to close up.  We still have some of the best bars in the city to hit before the weather takes its true turn, so c'mon out to Hurley's Wednesday and join in on the fun.

Special Thursday Run with Fishtown Beer Runners

So I am very excited to announce that some members of the original beer runners, the Fishtown Beer Runners, will be joining us in Montreal for Labor  Day weekend.  As a result, we have organized an additional special run Thursday evening for the whole group to join up and mingle.  It's also a great way to burn some additional calories and prep for a weekend trip to Chambly for their annual beer festival.  Be on the lookout for an MBR organized trip on the weekend there.

Hoooooooooottttttttttttt one

Gonna be a hot one tonight people, make sure to hydrate well BEFORE the run, the after is already a given.  The path tonight will take us on the nicely shaded mountain trail, so it won't be too terrible.

Only day without rain in forecast, come take advantage

So as we wrap up an odd July here, we seem to continue to be spared on Wednesday nights for the inclement weather (minus last week a bit, but we had a great plan B).  If you're starting to get in gear for the upcoming Montreal Marathon or Half in September, this is the way to deliver a solid run every week.  We keep growing by leaps and bounds, but always have room for more.

Weather Gods must like us

Well, just when you thought we would never have the rain stop, it clears up just for Wednesday night.  We sadly won't have a terrace tonight with HELM, but it should still be a great run, plus we're getting so big now I am reserving space in advance to make sure we actually get in the door!  We'll see everyone at 7.

Announcements May 28th: Mondiale 2013, CNN Write-up on the Hash House Harriers

This week's run is still Benelux downtown, but a secondary event is on for Friday evening for anyone that wants to go to check out the Mondiale de la biere, which starts Wednesday but will not be the destination, unless people wish to go afterwards.  Friday anyone who is interested in going should come Wednesday to determine the best time and meeting place for everyone.

Also saw this on CNN's homepage, nice article highlighting the fun of the HHH, but as you'll read in the article there's a bit more going on there than a run and some beers.  If you're interested there is a Montreal chapter that I have a link to below the link for the article.

Back-up for Dieu Du Ciel

Hello everyone,

With the weather improving from the reports the last few days and a large turnout expected tonight, we have created a back-up plan in case Dieu Du Ciel is too popular tonight, as is common.  We will run to DDC, however if it is too full our backup plan is La Quincallerie, on the corner of Boyer and Rachel, as is laid out in the map which can be found on the right-hand side of the site.  Another excellent destination, this bar has a nice additional import list of great Belgian and UK beers.  We'll see everyone at 7.

Terrace Season is now officially Open

Well after a full week of the most amazing weather everyone has accepted that it is now summer, or at the very least the beginning of terrace season.  We are very excited to take full advantage and will start calling bars in advance to prepare space for us so that we can take advantage of every Wednesday.  Thanks to everyone that is coming out to grow the club and we will be making some serious impressions on the whole city very soon with our group.

April 29, 2013

Woohoo May! We love the weather

Well I think it's time we deserved a week like this, great looking weather keeping in the low 20's is really going to be perfect for our runs the next couple of weeks.  To celebrate the fact, we have assembled a month full of our favorite destinations, including a few great terraces.

We've been very excited by our growth already this year, and continue to invite all runners and new people to the city looking for a great social club to join us.  Remember, there's no obligation to run as far or as fast as anyone else, the beer you drink at the end will taste the same no matter what.

This is gonna be a big year

Well if I'm reading the signs correctly it looks like this is gonna be a big year for us.  We've gotten a huge outpouring of interest from people all over the city for this season, so much so that some destination bars may have to be changed to accommodate our size.

Weather should be ok for Wednesday, possible rain but if anything it should be light.  We'll see everyone at the base of the statue at 7 (we will leave by 7:10 latest, if you're going to be late you can try to find us on the mountain or just do your own thing and meet at the bar around 7:30-7:45).

April Destinations Up- Official 1st run of 2013

Welcome everyone to the official 2013 Montreal Beer Runners schedule!  While it may be a chilly start for the season, it promises to be quite the year for us.  We are looking to spread the word of our mission this year, so we've stepped up our presence to do so.

Here are our other resources for getting the word out to the community at large:

Meetup.com (free, great resource for anyone)- http://www.meetup.com/Montreal-Beer-Runners/
Facebook (c'mon, everyone uses this)- https://www.facebook.com/groups/392120524189223/

We love our first destination, Brasserie Cherrier, and they have been good to us since we started.  Please remember to bring cash, and bring an appetite for the great kitchen of Flamme!
