No Reservation at Bily Kun, back-up plan is La Quincallerie

So Bily Kun won't take a reservation now that I've finally gotten hold of someone there, we will still try to meet there first, but 1st choice of backup bar is La Quincallerie http://www.laquincaillerie.ca/

End of Running Season, check the sideboard for new details

So looking at Wednesday's weather I'm gonna go ahead and officially call it now........we have hit the end of running season.

We are now simply the Montreal Beer Drinkers (name can be tweaked), meaning that we will simply be meeting at our destination bars at 8:30 rather than running at 7. Destinations to come tonight.

Important Notice regarding Brasserie Cherrier!

FYI people, it's also CASH ONLY for the BEER, it's a strange place where the food and beer are technically two separate businesses, therefore we get two bills for the end of the night.

Post Marathon Celebration, good luck to those running tomorrow!

Hello Everyone,

Good luck to everyone running tomorrow, whether it's Montreal or Ottawa.  However, if you are in Montreal and crave a real beer (the Michelob Ultra at the end of the race will not count at all), we will be celebrating properly @ 3 Brasseurs on St. Denis starting around 12pm.  For more info and a list of who else might be showing up, check out the meetup page, http://www.meetup.com/Montreal-Beer-Runners/events/141478782/

Don't let the sun and temperature fool you, it's still beer running season

Hey everyone, sorry it's been a little while but we've just been having too much fun with the weather.  Yes, it's cooling off and the sun is starting to come down a bit earlier, but we still have ideal conditions for our beer runs, even if the terraces are starting to close up.  We still have some of the best bars in the city to hit before the weather takes its true turn, so c'mon out to Hurley's Wednesday and join in on the fun.

Special Thursday Run with Fishtown Beer Runners

So I am very excited to announce that some members of the original beer runners, the Fishtown Beer Runners, will be joining us in Montreal for Labor  Day weekend.  As a result, we have organized an additional special run Thursday evening for the whole group to join up and mingle.  It's also a great way to burn some additional calories and prep for a weekend trip to Chambly for their annual beer festival.  Be on the lookout for an MBR organized trip on the weekend there.

August 21, 2013

Hoooooooooottttttttttttt one

Gonna be a hot one tonight people, make sure to hydrate well BEFORE the run, the after is already a given.  The path tonight will take us on the nicely shaded mountain trail, so it won't be too terrible.

New in Montreal? Come meet some new people the easy way...drinking!

Well it's now a month past the big July 1 move in day, so if you happen to be someone new to Montreal and trying to figure out how to spend the rest of the summer before the hibernation starts to kick in, we're the group for you.  We have seen tremendous growth this summer but certainly are more than happy to keep welcoming newcomers.  August again promises to take us all over the city to some of the best bars in town, and some of the nicest terraces.  We'll see you on Wednesday nights.

If you want to get an idea of who's coming for Beer Runners, you can always check out our Meetup group at www.meetup.com/montreal-beer-runners.

July 30, 2013

Only day without rain in forecast, come take advantage

So as we wrap up an odd July here, we seem to continue to be spared on Wednesday nights for the inclement weather (minus last week a bit, but we had a great plan B).  If you're starting to get in gear for the upcoming Montreal Marathon or Half in September, this is the way to deliver a solid run every week.  We keep growing by leaps and bounds, but always have room for more.

July 16, 2013

Just in case our weather streak ends.....

Ok, there is a back-up plan for tomorrow night just in case the isolated thunderstorm comes in right as we run.  It'll be to Brasserie Cherrier (an old MBR favorite) corner of Cherrier and St. Denis.  IT IS CASH ONLY, SO BRING CASH JUST IN CASE TOMORROW NIGHT.  Even if you're unsure of running I will post here which bar we are going to in case you want to join later.

Happy Canada Day- July runs are up!

Hello my Canadians and non-Canadians alike (yes, there are plenty of both that show up),

Happy of happiest Monday's, a great holiday weekend in typically the most fun month of the year.  We look forward to holding our end of the bargain in that expectation for this month with 5, yes 5, awesome destinations.  Come see every corner of the city, and even venture into parts typically overlooked for some of the best beers, and best people.

We hope to see you at 7, and we'll hold off the rain like we did all of June.

June 26, 2013

Think positive thoughts.....

Most recent weather check looks promising.  From what I can see, there shouldn't be any rain until closer to 8 or most likely 9 tonight, so if you're worried about getting caught in the rain I'd bet against it.

Tough Mudder Volunteering if you're free

Hey guys,

So I got contacted by someone at Tough Mudder to see if anyone would be interested in volunteering for their races in Bromont in a few weeks.  Here's the details below.  If you're interested apparently you can even get into Sunday's race for only $20.

Tough Mudder is coming near to Montreal and we're looking for volunteers to help us out on July 6th & 7th! I’m hoping you may know of friends or contacts who would be interested in the opportunity to come hang out with the Tough Mudder team and thousands of Mudders. If you could share this opportunity with anyone who may take advantage, that would be wonderful!

Volunteers get to do all kinds of awesome things, such as cheering Mudders on at obstacles through ice baths, fire, and mud, marking Mudders' faces, pumping up our amazing crowd at the Start Line, and crowning our Mudders at the Finish Line with their hard-earned and highly-coveted orange headbands. Not to mention free access to the Dos Equis after-party.

If you send me your email address, I can attach a flyer for your group members that further outlines the exceptional perks of volunteering at our events, including details on the opportunity to actually participate in our Sunday event or any future event for only $20!

Registration for volunteering can be found at the following link:

How long will the streak stay alive?

Wow, well I guess since I haven't jinxed us yet, I get to comment again about another run with wonderful weather for tomorrow.  23 and sun is about as good as you can get.  So if you're a first timer, this is a great day to start, Brasseur de Montreal has a fantastic terrace and we'll be there to soak up every ounce of this wonderful night!

June 12, 2013

Weather Gods must like us

Well, just when you thought we would never have the rain stop, it clears up just for Wednesday night.  We sadly won't have a terrace tonight with HELM, but it should still be a great run, plus we're getting so big now I am reserving space in advance to make sure we actually get in the door!  We'll see everyone at 7.

June 3, 2013

Welcome to June!

Ok people, it's now summer.  Time to stop the excuses, get out of the office and take advantage of the next 6 weeks (ok, maybe a bit more) before the snow starts falling again.  We're kicking off the month in a big way...an awesome run all the way down the canal to Brasserie McAuslan, home of St. Ambroise beers.  Every bar this month is going to follow up the same way, we're going big for the terraces and the best beers the city has to offer.  Check out all  the destinations and we'll see you at Tam Tams on Wednesdays, still 7PM.

Announcements May 28th: Mondiale 2013, CNN Write-up on the Hash House Harriers

This week's run is still Benelux downtown, but a secondary event is on for Friday evening for anyone that wants to go to check out the Mondiale de la biere, which starts Wednesday but will not be the destination, unless people wish to go afterwards.  Friday anyone who is interested in going should come Wednesday to determine the best time and meeting place for everyone.

Also saw this on CNN's homepage, nice article highlighting the fun of the HHH, but as you'll read in the article there's a bit more going on there than a run and some beers.  If you're interested there is a Montreal chapter that I have a link to below the link for the article.

Back-up for Dieu Du Ciel

Hello everyone,

With the weather improving from the reports the last few days and a large turnout expected tonight, we have created a back-up plan in case Dieu Du Ciel is too popular tonight, as is common.  We will run to DDC, however if it is too full our backup plan is La Quincallerie, on the corner of Boyer and Rachel, as is laid out in the map which can be found on the right-hand side of the site.  Another excellent destination, this bar has a nice additional import list of great Belgian and UK beers.  We'll see everyone at 7.

May 15, 2013

Rain or Shine we will still run, always!

Beer does not stop being poured when it rains, and as long as there is beer we will run!  Many people actually prefer running in the rain, natural way to rehydrate your skin and cool yourself as you go.  Should be an excellent run tonight.

Great Artice on the expenses of Marathons

Just wanted to get this story out there, the blame spreads out everywhere for the expenses of these races.  Also, Active Networks really is becoming the Ticketmaster for physical sports, so be on the look-out for their stuff if you're anti-Ticketmaster like me.

Terrace Season is now officially Open

Well after a full week of the most amazing weather everyone has accepted that it is now summer, or at the very least the beginning of terrace season.  We are very excited to take full advantage and will start calling bars in advance to prepare space for us so that we can take advantage of every Wednesday.  Thanks to everyone that is coming out to grow the club and we will be making some serious impressions on the whole city very soon with our group.

April 29, 2013

Woohoo May! We love the weather

Well I think it's time we deserved a week like this, great looking weather keeping in the low 20's is really going to be perfect for our runs the next couple of weeks.  To celebrate the fact, we have assembled a month full of our favorite destinations, including a few great terraces.

We've been very excited by our growth already this year, and continue to invite all runners and new people to the city looking for a great social club to join us.  Remember, there's no obligation to run as far or as fast as anyone else, the beer you drink at the end will taste the same no matter what.

April 15, 2013

Pray for Boston

On behalf of those of us who run, even if it is just for fun and not to the competitive level of those who were in Boston today, we send our best to everyone that has been impacted.  The Montreal Beer Runners, like the Fishtown Beer Runners who had several members in attendance in Boston, want to continue to promote the joys of running and challenging oneself in a wonderful setting surrounded with friends and loved ones.  For those that lost that joy today, we are deeply sorry and want to remind them that we will do our best to restore that happiness.

We will discuss on Wednesday what actions people may want to take in support of the victims in Boston, if you have ideas we welcome you to come and share.

April 14, 2013

Weather is turning in our favor

How's 12 and sunny sound for a good running night?  Well that's the forecast for Wednesday and I can't think of a better way to spend it than running and watching the Habs with a few beers and a few friends.

Our destination this week may be a bit smaller but we will do our best to make sure that they have room for us.  Get ready for some great beers and good food in this little NDG pub.

April 8, 2013

This is gonna be a big year

Well if I'm reading the signs correctly it looks like this is gonna be a big year for us.  We've gotten a huge outpouring of interest from people all over the city for this season, so much so that some destination bars may have to be changed to accommodate our size.

Weather should be ok for Wednesday, possible rain but if anything it should be light.  We'll see everyone at the base of the statue at 7 (we will leave by 7:10 latest, if you're going to be late you can try to find us on the mountain or just do your own thing and meet at the bar around 7:30-7:45).

April Destinations Up- Official 1st run of 2013

Welcome everyone to the official 2013 Montreal Beer Runners schedule!  While it may be a chilly start for the season, it promises to be quite the year for us.  We are looking to spread the word of our mission this year, so we've stepped up our presence to do so.

Here are our other resources for getting the word out to the community at large:

Meetup.com (free, great resource for anyone)- http://www.meetup.com/Montreal-Beer-Runners/
Facebook (c'mon, everyone uses this)- https://www.facebook.com/groups/392120524189223/

We love our first destination, Brasserie Cherrier, and they have been good to us since we started.  Please remember to bring cash, and bring an appetite for the great kitchen of Flamme!

March 27, 2013

Change of weather/heart, WE RUN TODAY!!

Well, today we're just going with gut instinct.  Let's hope the weather agrees with us as we officially open the 2013 Beer Runners' Season with tonight's run to L'amere a boire.  We'll get started at 7pm, leaving from 1400 avenue des pins ouest for convenience of the guaranteed runners, but welcome anyone to meet us around 7:15 at Tam Tams for the last legs of the run or directly at the bar!

March 25, 2013

Running doubtful for Wednesday, guaranteed for April 3rd

Well the weather forecast does seem to be fluctuating on a daily basis right now, but given the amount of melting snow and possibility for more rain/snow between today and Wednesday, we most likely won't be running this week.  I am hereby guaranteeing though that we will start April 3rd, rain or shine (there can't be more snow, right?).  We will start with some quick, easy runs to get everybody back into the groove, but do expect the recommended routes to get a bit longer this year compared to last.

Again, please remind your friends/co-workers/anyone who is a beer drinker or advocate of using their feet that this is one of the best clubs in the city.  We are looking to spread the word to all corners of the city this year and get people out enjoying the experience.

March 12, 2013

Was gonna say let's run tomorrow, but....

I was excited all weekend with the prospect that we could actually get a run in tomorrow, but with the temperature expected to be around 0 at 7PM with 40% of rain, I think we may have to wait just a bit longer.  Regardless, get yourselves to Hurley's tomorrow night for a St. Patrick's Day warmup, we'll be sure to at least get one good car bomb in!

March 5, 2013

Welcome March, goodbye snow?

Well people, it looks like hopefully we've gotten past the worst of what winter can offer.  It's now time for sugar shacks, less ice, and hopefully more running.  While we're not gonna be so dumb as to jump the gun and get running quite yet, we could be looking at starting around the end of the month if things progress as they are.

In the meantime, we've got a few great bars lined up for the month.  The first few may not be as runner friendly, so we want to get them out of the way sooner than later.  Hurley's will be our St. Patty's warm-up, so for those that want to be good and ready for the weekend this is the best way to get your practice in.

Ideas will be kicking around soon about shirts, new members, new destinations, and the whole lot.  Come join us and give your input, and let's make it a great summer to run.

February 20, 2013

Off the beaten path, but totally worth it!

Well hopefully the snow should diminish by tonight, but even if it doesn't the temperatures will stay mild (comparatively), which is good because tonight's destination is a bit off the beaten path.  Brasseurs de Montreal is a wonderful brewpub/brewery location at the bottom of Guy below Notre-Dame, so best bets for metro are Lucien l'allier or Georges Vanier.  Even better, there is the 57 bus that runs along Guy from St. Catherine's or the 107 going down Peel that will get you close as well.

February 5, 2013

February Destinations are up, all over the city

Well let's hope the worst of the weather is behind us, but with February one never knows.  Regardless, we're still hopping all over the city, checking out a full slate of new bars this month that promise to be quite the mix.  We are focusing on metro-friendly destinations, therefore I believe only one bar requires more than a 5 minute walk from any metro, but trust me, it's worth it.

January 30, 2013

Yes it's warm, no we won't run + Race Info

Ice is never your friend people.  #1 it keeps your beer too cold, #2 it'll try to kill you while running (yes, the order is important).  So don't get too excited with the brief warm spot as the melting snow is just exposing the worst of the ice.

In other news though, as our thoughts turn to warmer weather, there are several great races this year that should be on your radar.  Info on the Spartan Race, Tough Mudder, and Marathon are below:

Spartan Race:
http://www.spartanrace.com/montreal-obstacle-racing-spartan-sprint-2013.html

Until May 31, $90 half-marathon, $105 marathon

January 21, 2013

So much for the weather...should we meet earlier?

Well needless to say there will not be a similar offer to last week's for a January run, at least not this week.  There is one key question worth asking though.  As we've been getting later and later starts to the evening and often not getting home until past midnight, should we move the meeting time forward?  Any thoughts on 8 or 8:30 now at the bar?  Feel free to leave comments below.

January 16, 2013

Where's the snow? Run optional tonight?

Well it's been quite a week of change here in Montreal, the weather gods seem to be favoring runners for now at least (tomorrow may be a different story, -15 for a high last I checked).  The snow on my balcony went from covering up my grill my completely to being almost completely gone.  So, I'll put it out there that I may take a run today, well before hitting up Ye Olde at 9 on Prince Arthur and St. Laurent, so if you're interested shoot me a message or reply in the comments here.

Otherwise, don't forget to spread the word to any non-runners that we are open and non-discriminatory right now, all are welcome to join up whenever they like and avoid cabin fever.

January 8, 2013

Happy 2013, Resolve to Run!

Welcome back everyone, and Happy New Year to all.  This should be a very exciting year for the MBR, we will continue to semi-hibernate through what is sure to be a continuing tough winter, but when this all clears up we will be back on the streets with a vengeance.  Looking forward there are things like the Spartan Race at Tremblant in May and the Tough Mudder in July that will be challenges that many of our members will face, as well as convincing more than a few people to join in for at least the half-marathon in September.

In the meantime, we will still be enjoying each others' company throughout January with a few great destinations, including a nice trip to the old Port and along St. Laurent.  Check out the bars, and we'll still be meeting 9PM every Wednesday.
